Lis

Lis is eighteen. “Little” is her height, not her age. She is the daughter of two bakers, an only child, and one of the twelve squires who were to swear beside Teo. On days off she is found at the Portico Bakehouse.

For five years the squires’ dormitory has wondered who Bread is: Lis talks to him in her sleep almost every night, and never answers. After the Breaking she is a Temple guard in Auren, with her broken right wrist healing and Bread at her feet. She does not yet know that Teo has been declared a traitor.
